About The Position

About the Role The Industry Listener is the front line of Haystack’s learning-driven sales and marketing engine. This role exists to build trust, listen deeply, and learn the Power & Utilities industry—not to pitch or close deals. This person starts thoughtful conversations with industry professionals, captures real-world insights and language, and feeds that intelligence into Haystack’s broader sales, marketing, and strategy efforts. Success is measured by quality of conversations, strength of relationships, and usefulness of insights, not quotas. What This Role is Not: No cold pitching Not quota-driven selling Not a traditional SDR/BDR role Not responsible for closing deals

Requirements

  • Naturally curious and empathetic
  • Comfortable speaking with senior professionals
  • A strong listener and clear communicator
  • Organized and disciplined about documentation
  • Interested in learning Power & Utilities (no prior industry experience required)
  • Someone who enjoys relationship building without pressure to 'sell'

Responsibilities

  • Initiate respectful, thoughtful outreach to utility leaders vendors, and adjacent industry pressionals
  • Conduct conversations focused on listening, learning, and understanding; not selling
  • Build credibility through curiosity and industry-relevant questions
  • Identify recurring pain points, priorities, and trends
  • Capture the exact language prospects use to describe their challenges
  • Document insights clearly in the internal knowledge hub / CRM
  • Hand off warm relationships and context to AEs or leadership when appropriate
  • Partner closely with the Knowledge Curator to organize and tag insights
  • Provide feedback on messaging, positioning, and outreach effectiveness
  • Represent Haystack as a thoughtful, modern, non-salesy partner
  • Leave every contact feeling heard, respected, and better informed
