The Industrial Test Lead is responsible for overseeing day‑to‑day operations within the industrial Test area. This role ensures panels are built to specification, meet quality and safety standards, and are tested on schedule. The lead acts as the technical subject‑matter expert, supports other testers, coordinates workflow, and serves as the primary interface between engineering, production, and test teams.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of experience in electrical panel building, industrial wiring, or control cabinet assembly.
  • Strong ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
  • Proficiency with electrical tools (crimpers, strippers, torque drivers, multimeters, labelers, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of industrial components such as PLCs, relays, VFDs, breakers, terminal blocks, power supplies, etc.
  • Experience leading a team or acting as the “go‑to” person on the floor.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
  • Ability to lift 40+ lbs and work standing at benches for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a UL 508A panel shop environment.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement concepts.
  • Ability to collaborate with engineering on design reviews or technical changes.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems for job tracking or material management.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, mentor, and train test technicians; ensure consistent testing practices across the team.
  • Assign daily workloads, manage priorities, and ensure on‑time completion of testing activities.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Support onboarding and skills development of new employees.
  • Develop, refine, and enforce testing procedures, checklists, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering to improve testability and reduce recurring issues. Support expansion of automated test equipment into industrial assembly
  • Identify process bottlenecks and implement improvements to increase throughput and accuracy.
  • Support root‑cause analysis and corrective action initiatives for quality issues.
  • Diagnose wiring issues, component failures, or design discrepancies; collaborate with engineering to resolve.
  • Provide guidance to builders on electrical troubleshooting and corrective actions.
  • Recommend improvements to designs, layouts, and test processes to reduce rework or improve efficiency.
  • Communicate daily with engineering, purchasing, and production leadership on job status and constraints.
  • Track material shortages, escalate procurement needs, and help ensure parts availability.
  • Participate in daily or weekly production meetings.
  • Coordinate execution of rework and completion of rework activities with assembly prior to shipment
  • Complete required documentation, build logs, QC forms, and non‑conformance reports.
  • Enforce shop safety procedures, electrical safety protocols, PPE usage, and lockout/tagout when applicable.
  • Ensure panels are built to meet regulatory and customer standards (UL, CSA, ISO, etc.).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and audit‑ready workspace (5S).
