About The Position

Performs highly advanced work in the operation of the Print Shop. Work involves directing and overseeing the work of inmates to ensure efficient operations; and supervising the work of employees and inmates. Works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
  • Two years full-time, wage-earning experience in the printing trades or four years full-time, wage-earning experience in any production or manufacturing operation.
  • Thirty semester hours from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE) may be substituted for each year of experience on a year-for-year basis for a maximum substitution of two years.
  • Knowledge of quality control standards to maintain satisfactory levels of production.
  • Knowledge of production and workflow procedures.
  • Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in problem-solving techniques.
  • Skill to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
  • Skill to coordinate and supervise various manufacturing production lines simultaneously.
  • Skill to train and supervise the work of employees and inmates.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 45 lbs. and over, perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.
  • Conditions include working inside, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, radiant and electrical energy, working closely with others, working alone, working protracted or irregular hours, constant noise, dust, grease, oils, solvents, and traveling by car, van, bus, and airplane.

  • Experience in the supervision of employees and inmates preferred.
  • Correctional custody or law enforcement experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures for the manufacture of printed materials preferred.
  • Skill in the use of machinery and equipment in the assigned area preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans schedules of operations; evaluates operations and recommends changes; conducts inspections to ensure quality and quantity control is maintained; ensures the continued maintenance of machinery and equipment; and inspects and provides technical assistance in methods and equipment used in the printing trades.
  • Reviews raw material requirements; and requisitions supplies, machinery, and equipment.
  • Coordinates technical training and in-service programs; and maintains evaluations and records of training activities and proficiencies.
  • Supervises the work of employees and inmates; and assigns work tasks in various phases of production.
  • Maintains security of tools, machinery, and equipment; responds to emergency situations; performs various correctional and custodial support functions; and assists in maintaining security of assigned inmates.
  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
