About The Position

Performs highly advanced work in the operation of the Bus Repair Facility. Work involves directing and overseeing the work of inmates to ensure efficient operations; and supervising the work of inmates. Works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
• Two years full-time, wage-earning automotive repair experience to include paint and body or mechanical repair
• or
• four years full-time, wage-earning experience in any production or manufacturing operation.
• Welding certification obtained by completing thirty semester hours may substitute for one year of the required experience.
• The following certifications may substitute for two years of the required experience: Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), International Automotive Technicians Network (IATN), National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), Inter-Industry Conference Auto Collision Repair (I-CAR), Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS), Automotive Refinishing Technician (ART), or Automotive Body Repair Technician (ABRT).
• Knowledge of quality control standards to maintain satisfactory levels of production.
• Knowledge of production and workflow procedures.
• Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
• Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
• Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Skill in problem-solving techniques.
• Skill to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
• Skill to coordinate and supervise various manufacturing production lines simultaneously.
• Skill in the use of machinery and equipment in the assigned area.
• Skill to train and supervise inmates.
• Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, twist, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 45 lbs. and over, perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in the supervision of inmates preferred.
• Correctional custody or law enforcement experience preferred.
• Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.
• Knowledge of methods and procedures for sheet metal fabrication and properties of metals preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plans schedules of operations; evaluates operations and recommends changes; conducts inspections to ensure quality and quantity control is maintained; ensures the proper maintenance of machinery and equipment; reads blueprints and makes material takeoffs; and inspects and provides technical assistance in methods and equipment used in the paint and body shop.
• Reviews raw material requirements; and requisitions supplies, machinery, and equipment.
• Coordinates and oversees technical training and in-service programs; and maintains evaluations and records of training activities and proficiencies.
• Supervises the work of inmates; and assigns work tasks in various phases of production.
• Maintains security of tools, machinery, and equipment; responds to emergency situations; performs various correctional and custodial support functions; and assists in maintaining security of assigned inmates.
• Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
