About The Position

Performs advanced work in the operation of the Textile Mill. Work involves overseeing the work of inmates to ensure efficient operations; and assigning and supervising the work of others. Works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
  • Eighteen months full-time, wage-earning experience in the manufacture of textiles or three years full-time, wage-earning experience in any production or manufacturing operation.
  • Thirty semester hours from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE) may be substituted for each year of experience on a year-for-year basis for a maximum substitution of two years.
  • Knowledge of quality control standards to maintain satisfactory levels of production.
  • Knowledge of production and workflow procedures.
  • Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in problem-solving techniques.
  • Skill to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
  • Skill to assign and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, twist, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 15-44 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.
  • Conditions include working inside, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, working around moving objects or vehicles, radiant and electrical energy, working closely with others, working alone, working protracted or irregular hours, excessive heat, cold, humidity, excessive or intermittent noise, constant noise, fumes, smoke, gases, dust, grease, oils, solvents, working at heights, working on ladders or scaffolding, and traveling by car, van, bus, and airplane.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the supervision of employees or inmates preferred.
  • Correctional custody or law enforcement experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.
  • Knowledge of textile manufacturing preferred.
  • Skill in the use of machinery and equipment in the assigned area preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees inmates in the performance of assigned tasks and the overall processing and production of the Textile Mill
  • Plans schedules of operations
  • Ensures the proper maintenance of machinery and equipment
  • Conducts inspections and provides technical assistance in methods and equipment used in the manufacturing of textiles
  • Reviews raw material requirements
  • Requisitions supplies, machinery, and equipment
  • Prepares invoices for products distributed
  • Prepares reports of operations and related documentation to include quality and quantity of production
  • Maintains evaluations and records of training activities and proficiencies
  • Assigns and supervises the work of others
  • Maintains security of tools, machinery, and equipment
  • Responds to emergency situations
  • Performs various correctional and custodial support functions
  • Assists in maintaining security of assigned inmates
  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
