About The Position

The position involves working as a Rail Switchman, where you will be responsible for spotting cars on the correct track, moving empty cars, building the outbound train, classifying inbound trains, and interacting with class one railroads. You will also visually inspect rail cars, perform air brake inspections, and assist in various functions at the facility. Training and certification for operating a locomotive will be provided, and participation in the Savage safety program is expected.

Requirements

• Minimum of two years switching experience
• Work is performed within a refinery setting and requires all hires to pass a criminal background check and drug screening
• Attend and pass all training associated with job related coursework, including OSHA, HazMat and FRA related courses
• Travel to other sites to assist in switching and training requirements
• Willingness to wear required PPE
• Work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends
• Read, write and understand, and follow written and/or verbal instructions in English
• Perform basic maintenance

Responsibilities

• Spotting cars on the correct track; move empty cars and build the outbound train
• Classification of inbound train
• Interaction with class one railroad

• Cross train and assist in the different functions performed at the facility
• Operate a locomotive - we provide training and certification
• Participate in and promote Savage safety program/SHAPS
