A day in this role Based in Covington, GA, you start your morning calibrating a new estimate for an industrial mechanical project. You review drawings and specs, confirm scope with a project manager and an engineer, and translate that information into precise quantities for labor, materials, and overhead. Midday, you compare supplier pricing and subcontractor bids, looking for trends that keep estimates competitive without sacrificing accuracy. By late afternoon, you help shape a project budget and forecast, document every assumption, and share cost insights in a team meeting. You wrap up by refining templates and checklists to make tomorrow’s estimates even sharper. What you’ll do Develop comprehensive cost estimates for mechanical work—covering labor, materials, equipment, and indirects. Interpret blueprints and specifications to identify scope, constructability, and risk. Partner with project managers and engineers to gather data and validate takeoffs and assumptions. Research market conditions to track pricing shifts and evaluate supplier options. Solicit, analyze, and level bids from subcontractors and vendors. Support budget development and financial forecasting for active and upcoming projects. Maintain clear, organized estimate files and supporting documentation. Participate in project meetings to communicate cost drivers, value options, and budget impacts. Continuously improve estimating methods to boost accuracy and speed.
