About The Position

Duties: Safely and competently perform troubleshooting, repairs, and inspections on a wide variety of equipment, piping, pumps, process fans, motors, fans, conveyors, chutes, etc. in both inside and outdoor applications in a continuous operating environment. Erect, fabricate, inspect, dismantle, overhaul, clean, service, repair, adjust, test, assemble, and lubricate machinery and equipment. Understand and perform furnace hot repair work including overcoating sidewalls, spout lip changes, tweel replacements, etc. Read, understand, and execute work using blue prints, sketches, maintenance manuals, and other documents. Perform craftsman-level welding using various types of gas and electric welding and burning equipment. Be willing and interested in learning additional skills beyond traditional mechanic skills to become a cross-functional crafts-person. Perform troubleshooting, identify, and use correct tools and materials for unplanned maintenance activities. Provide technical advice, quality control, problem solving, troubleshooting, and repair recommendations. Understand consequences of equipment failure and repair errors. Participate in continuous improvement processes. Safely perform basic rigging using slings, chain falls, and other common lifting devices. Operate drill presses, threading machines, and cut-off saws as required. Operate trucks, forklifts, cranes, and elevated work platforms as required to facilitate work. Work in shop or field as required. Show strong mechanical aptitude in pipe materials, specifications, fittings, seals, water piping/pumping systems, welding, conveying equipment, gearing/bearings/power transmission, rigging/iron working, machining procedures, tolerances, use of power/hydraulic tools, and refractory Receive verbal and/or written instructions from Supervision in the form of work orders, permits to work, hot work, confined space, and isolation procedures to safely complete work, including paper work, and feedback to Supervision on execution of tasks. Inspect and keep tools and work area in clean and orderly condition. Promote and demonstrate a positive work attitude and atmosphere. Training Requirements: Equipment specific training as new equipment is added to the process. Lock Out/Tag Out Fork Truck and Aerial Lifts Handle Hazardous Materials as required by Federal, State, and Local regulatory agencies. Physical Demands: The role involves prolonged periods of standing and walking, often exceeding 8 hours per day. The position also requires the ability to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift items over 20 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasionally exposed to plant environment including noise, dust, dirt and vibrations, extreme climate changes / changes in weather, and heat. Ability to work at elevated work stations Availability to work for extended periods during emergency repair work Availability as needed to work on both a scheduled and the ability to work at the job site. Willing to work shift work and assist in other areas of department or site as needed. Responsibility/Authority: The incumbent has no direct report responsibility but has temporary responsibility of contractor workers as assigned to specific projects as required. Work includes, but not limited to lifting of parts, work in extreme hot and cold areas, working at elevated work stations, working for extended periods during emergency repair work, and computer related activities. Job schedule/working hours are determined by crew assigned– unless modified by supervisor due to emergency needs.: Day Crew: 10 hours/day, Mon-Thurs or Tues-Fri Shift Crew: 12 hours/day 6a-6p or 6p-6a, work 2- off 2- work 3- off 2- work 2- off 3, switch from days to nights every 4 weeks The incumbent has the authority to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of, process and quality system nonconformity. The incumbent can initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels.
