We currently have an exciting opportunity within our corporate Facilities group as an HVAC Technician, based in the San Diego, California region. As a skilled specialist this position is responsible for servicing, troubleshooting, modifying, rebuilding, and repairing the facility mechanical equipment including air-conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation, heating, plumbing, and mechanical systems in accordance with applicable building codes, plumbing and mechanical codes, manufacturer's operation and maintenance manuals, and safety regulations. Performs periodic inspection to locate and determine cause of equipment malfunction. Conducts maintenance program to prevent failure of such equipment as centrifugal compressors, electrical controls, evaporative condensers, pumps, fans, and heating equipment. Charges air-conditioning systems with refrigerant. Checks and tests for leaks. Sets and adjusts controls and regulators. Overhauls equipment.

  • Servicing, modifying, rebuilding, and repairing HVAC-R equipment in accordance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Utilizing CMMS system to support supervisor with work order schedule development and completion.
  • Directing HVAC and Building Automation Systems contracted services as required.
  • Overseeing critical work and project work in the field.
  • Managing contractors and developing statements of work.
  • Conducting preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance procedures.
  • Performing refrigeration system charges and leak tests.
  • Determining if equipment needs to be overhauled and performing overhauls as needed.
  • Installing, repairing, and inspecting preventive/corrective maintenance of HVAC-R equipment.
  • Performing advanced piping repairs of compressed air, gas, water, and condensate drain lines.
  • Utilizing predictive maintenance technology to detect possible future failures.
  • Installing and repairing refrigerant piping using silver brazing and soldering techniques.
  • Repairing and replacing HVAC controls and associated components.
  • Conducting emergency repairs on HVAC controls as required.
  • Providing recommendations to enhance periodic inspections.
  • Conducting maintenance programs to prevent failure of plumbing, compressors, and HVAC systems.
  • Replacing belts, pulleys, shafts, bearings, rotors, and impellers for motors and pumps.
  • Operating, troubleshooting, and identifying electrical and mechanical issues via the Building Management System (BMS).
  • Installing, troubleshooting, and performing software configurations with BAS systems.
  • Participating in the Facilities On-Call program as required.
  • Attending project implementation meetings as a subject matter expert in HVAC.
  • Working closely with internal and external mechanical engineers.
  • Collaborating with Environmental Health & Safety personnel to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Observing all laws, regulations, and applicable obligations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, military class C school or Military Occupation Specialty (MOS), and five or more years of progressive experience as an apprentice plumber or HVAC mechanic.
  • Considerable knowledge of construction industry mechanic concepts and regulations.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand schematics.
  • Working knowledge of and discretion in safely operating hand and power tools.
  • Valid California driver's license with a good driving record.
  • EPA certification in refrigerant recovery.
  • Strong analytical skills to use Management Control Systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with all levels of employees, vendors, and contractors.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to resolve moderately complex issues.
  • Strong knowledge of computer operations and applications pertinent to the field.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Ability to work extended hours as required.
  • Two-year technical degree or trade school equivalent.
  • Active Secret Clearance.
