About The Position

The Industrial Mechanic, Biosafe Systems Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring the uninterrupted operation of our laboratory by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing Biosafe equipment, focusing on machines decontaminating waste. This position is critical to the functionality of our lab, ensuring all waste-processing systems are maintained, repaired, and operating safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with biosafety and environmental standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • 3+ years of experience as an industrial mechanic or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in using diagnostic tools and technical manuals for equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Basic proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for documenting activities and tracking maintenance schedules.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office programs for reporting and communication, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated understanding of OSHA, EPA, and other safety and environmental compliance regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of biosafety standards for operating and maintaining decontamination equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively in a 24/7 operational environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and adaptability skills to address unexpected repairs or breakdowns.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams, including safety and compliance teams.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and a strong customer service orientation to ensure operational uptime and high-quality support.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license; no suspended, revoked, surrendered, invalid, etc. allowed.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the position's essential duties with or without accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or vocational training in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience as an industrial mechanic, preferably in a biotech, pharmaceutical, or other regulated industry.
  • Prior experience working in a 24/7 operational facility with biosafety or waste treatment systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in maintaining and troubleshooting biosafe decontamination equipment, including steam boilers, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic controls.
  • Experience with the setup and programming of automated equipment.
  • Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and other industrial control systems.
  • Relevant certifications such as OSHA 30, EPA Section 608 (Refrigerant Handling), or other industry-recognized maintenance credentials.
  • Certification in the operation of forklifts or other material-handling equipment.
  • Prior training or certification in biosafety or environmental compliance standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of maintaining compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on industrial equipment, including steam boilers, hydraulics, and waste treatment systems.
  • Monitor and adjust machine settings to ensure optimal performance, efficiency, and compliance with safety standards.
  • Diagnose and repair issues with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems by following technical manuals and standard procedures.
  • Collaborate with safety and compliance teams to ensure all maintenance and repairs align with biosafety and environmental regulations.
  • Provide emergency support for unscheduled repairs and breakdowns to minimize operational downtime.
  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on facility systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and life safety equipment.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts and equipment, coordinating with procurement for timely replacements.
  • Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections using the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) in compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
  • Assist in developing and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) for new and existing equipment.
  • Train team members in safe machine operation and best maintenance practices.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability to handle dynamic challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate across teams.
  • Attention to detail to ensure equipment compliance with safety standards.
