About The Position

American Construction Metals (ACM), a strategic business unit of ABC Supply, produces a wide array of metal building materials including trim coil, edge metal, gutter systems, and a variety of other metal accessories. ACM is seeking an experienced Industrial Maintenance and Automation Technician to join its team. This position requires a wide range of skills and experience including but not limited to vendor specific machine knowledge, troubleshooting machine issues, strong communication skills, and the ability to teach detailed functionality on vendor specific machinery. Qualified individuals will have high energy with a positive attitude and the desire to learn. Duties may include: Maintaining the conformance of the Lock-Out / Tag-Out program during routine maintenance of machines and during special uncommon repairs Repairing malfunctioning machinery and equipment Performing tooling setup and line changeover on roll-forming machines Conducting in-process machine adjustments to meet quality specifications Utilizing engineering drawings to troubleshoot production and quality issues Communicating with co-workers, shop associates and management on projects Stopping production when product quality does not meet the requirements, equipment operation is not safe or not functioning properly Understanding the workflow of in-house automation and robotics and must be able to troubleshoot and initiate improvement projects Documenting startup processes, designs of mechanical / electrical systems for production equipment Leading projects that will encompass process improvement and control, mechanical/electrical modifications, cost reduction and safety Developing “Troubleshooting Guides” for each machine, for set-up associates and production operators’ use Coordinating and supervising the training of associates that operate equipment as needed to support the production team Dropping new electrical wiring for machinery Performing other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Two-year technical degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Highly adaptable and resilient in a fast-moving production floor environment
  • Ability to maintain composure and focus during critical operations
  • Mandatory overtime as needed based on business demands
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends beyond standard shifts as project deadlines require
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills & experience needed to address process problems
  • Self-starter with the ability to think on his/her own
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Solid communicator/coordinator; necessitated by the numerous and changing demands of the customer base
  • A strategic thinker, with the acumen for balancing the impact on the many functions within the business
  • Industrial maintenance and mechanical repairs
  • Knowledge of motors, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
  • Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Must have experience with electrical repairs and wiring (3 Phase 480 VAC, 240 VAC, 120 VAC)
  • Associate must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted and up to 100 lbs. with assistance
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, reach, and lift for a full 8-hour day

Nice To Haves

  • Machine troubleshooting and repair experience in a metal forming environment is preferred
  • Electrical and PLC certification is a plus
  • Robotic troubleshooting experience with FANUC and Kawasaki is a plus
  • Able to troubleshoot machine VFD’s and read supplier electrical drawings to identify and fix any electrical issues
