About The Position

Under routine supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, maintain production and quality by ensuring operation of mechanical systems, apparatus, and mechanical components of machinery and equipment.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of company philosophy, policies, and procedures related to safety, environmental protection, and quality control.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
  • Knowledge of equipment, tools, mechanical devices, and their uses to produce motion, light, power, technology, and other applications.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to construct objects and structures.
  • Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, and applications including air, water, material dynamics, light, and heat.
  • Knowledge of numbers, their operations, and interrelationships including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Excellent problem solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Good verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to reach above and below shoulder height.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to perform all physical motions, i.e., twisting, bending, squatting, kneeling, crawling, pushing, pulling, and walking on uneven ground.
  • Knowledge and experience in motors; schematics & print reading; hand & power tools; tack welding; construction, distribution & installation; safety lock-out & tag-out procedures.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in industrial/mechanical technology. In lieu of technical school, will also consider military training and/or equivalent combination of education and experience in a heavy manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs and maintains, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer's specifications, machinery and mechanical equipment, such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment, using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Dismantles devices/machines to gain access to and remove defective parts and reassembles devices/machines, using hoists, power tools, hand tools, chain falls, jack, crane, or hoist.
  • Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments, using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
  • Starts devices to test their performance.
  • Collects and discards worn machine parts and other garbage to maintain machinery and work areas.
  • Communicates with or assists other workers to repair or move machines, machine parts or equipment.
  • Installs, replaces, or changes machine parts and attachments, according to production specifications.
  • Reads work orders and specifications to determine machines and equipment requiring repair or maintenance.
  • Records and maintains production, repair, and machine maintenance information.
  • Examines and repairs auxiliary equipment, such as pumps, valves, hoses, and compressors.
  • Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery, using rags, brushes, and grease gun.
  • Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
  • May install machinery and equipment according to blueprints and other specifications
  • May install, program, or repair automated machinery and equipment, such as robots or programmable controllers.
  • May set up and operate machine tools, such as lathe, grinder, drill, and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools.
  • May operate cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
  • May fabricate and repair counters, benches, partitions, and other structures.
  • May set up and operate lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  • May initiate purchase order for parts and machines.
