About The Position

Are you an experienced Maintenance Mechanic or Machinist with a strong background in industrial equipment and troubleshooting? Looking to apply your skills in a fast-paced production environment? Join our Operations team today! The Seattle Times, the Pulitzer Prize-winning news organization and premier commercial printing option in the Puget Sound, is hiring for a highly skilled Industrial Maintenance Mechanic to join the Print Operations team at our Kent facility. Also referred to as a Machinist at our plant, this role is critical to maintaining the performance and reliability of our production equipment. This position is best suited for an experienced mechanic who can work independently, diagnose complex issues, and contribute immediately to minimizing downtime in a high-volume operation. Schedule: Training will likely take place on a day shift (6:00 AM–2:30 PM). Following training, the role will likely transition to a 4/10 day shift schedule (6:00 AM–4:30 PM). Final scheduling will be based on shift selection and business needs and will include weekend work. Candidates must be available to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic, Machinist, Millwright, or similar role in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical systems.
  • Comfortable using CMMS or similar maintenance tracking systems.
  • Solid computer skills and ability to document work clearly.
  • Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across teams and shifts.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and able to manage time and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with production or high-speed equipment.
  • Experience in printing, packaging, or similar production environments.
  • Strong fabrication and machining skills.
  • Relevant technical training, certification, or apprenticeship.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced predictive/corrective maintenance support to all areas of production.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex mechanical issues on high-speed production equipment.
  • Fabricate or modify parts as needed to support timely and effective repairs.
  • Maintain and improve equipment reliability through proactive maintenance practices.
  • Accurately document work performed, including labor and parts, within the CMMS.
  • Procure and manage parts inventory to support maintenance needs.
  • Maintain detailed daily work logs and communicate effectively across shifts.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively to resolve issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Adhere to all company safety standards and operational guidelines.
