Our Corporate Innovation team, headquartered in Chicago, leads the deployment and optimization of factory data systems to enhance operational performance and deliver measurable value across Marmon's 130+ operating companies. Through Marmon's Sponsored Intern Program, we provide students with hands-on opportunities to tackle real-world industrial challenges while building both technical expertise and professional experience. What You'll Do: As an Industrial IoT & Automation Intern, you’ll become an integral part of Marmon’s Innovation Team, contributing to the modernization of factory operations across our global footprint. You’ll collaborate with engineers and data specialists to implement and refine digital systems that elevate manufacturing performance. This immersive role, based at our mHUB location in Chicago, offers exposure to PLCs, SCADA systems (e.g. Ignition), and SQL databases – empowering you to deliver impactful solutions in a dynamic industrial environment.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Analytics, or a related field
  • Able to work 10-12 weeks in the summer of 2026
  • Familiarity with industrial automation systems (PLCs, SCADA)
  • Basic understanding of SQL or Python and data visualization tools
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Interest or experience in lean manufacturing principles and supporting continuous improvement initiatives based on data insights

Responsibilities

  • Assist with deploying and optimizing industrial IoT systems across manufacturing sites
  • Manage integration of PLCs, SCADA, and SQL databases with Ignition
  • Analyze operational data to identify performance improvement opportunities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement digital solutions
