About The Position

Industrial Instrumentation & Control Technician performs electronics work in the calibration, programming, installation, repair, and maintenance of electronic equipment and various instrumentation, control systems, and process equipment used in an industrial/building operations setting. Assists, completes, and/or leads crews responsible for performing a broad range of electronic tasks in accordance with the International Society of Automation (ISA) standards and electronics trade practices. The ideal candidate would have prior experience in field and bench instrumentation and controls best practices and procedures that support the duties, responsibilities and skill sets required of an Industrial Instrumentation and Controls Technician. The position deals with water, wastewater, reclaimed water treatment and lift station equipment such as, but not limited to the following; PLC’s ( Allen Bradley, Schneider ), HMI’S, Flow meters ( Magnetic, differential pressure, ultrasonic ), pressure and level transducers ( radar, ultrasonic, diaphragm ), actuators ( electric, pneumatic ), Ultra Violet disinfection and chemical water treatment systems. The candidate will be able to troubleshoot, field or bench, any of the above listed equipment as well as perform preventative maintenance and calibrations. The candidate will need to be able to utilize the following tools and technologies; process multi-meters, specialized calibration equipment, calculators, voltage and current meters, electronic related software. The candidate should understand the importance of compliance meters and documentation of these meters. Candidates will be willing to work overtime as needed, must understand that participation in a 24/7 afterhours standby rotation program is required after successful completion of probation. Candidates should possess basic computer skills with standard software such as Excel, Word, Outlook, etc. and knowledge of a computer operated work management system. The candidate would have knowledge of infrastructure analyzers for chlorine, PH, Turbidity, Fluoride, DO, ORP, Nitrites, TSS and Blanket monitoring equipment. They would also have the ability to work with scientific and analytic computer software, electronic probes, signal generators, Beamex pressure calibrators, Siemens Verificators and specialized calibration equipment in relation to the Water, Wastewater, and Reclaim industry.

Requirements

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate
One year of formal vocational schooling in electronics or other relevant field
Two (2) years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted above
Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate
Completion of a Technical, Trade or Vocational diploma / certification program
Three (3) years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted above
Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License
An Associate's degree in an Electronics Technology field
Three years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment
One year leading/directing small groups, overseeing special projects, and troubleshooting experience
Possession of a valid Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) Level 1 Certification
An equivalent combination of education (not less than a High School diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job specific competencies noted above
Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License
Knowledge of local, state, and federal electronics compliance regulations as applicable to specific agency or department facilities.
Knowledge of electrical safe work practices and procedures.
Knowledge of the function and operation of electronic controlling, measuring, recording, transmitting, testing and diagnostic equipment.
Knowledge of industrial automation, control panels, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and instruments.
Knowledge in the proper applications of instruments that control a process function.
Knowledge of Radio Communications associated software & hardware.
Knowledge of instrumentation and controls systems within agency or department.
Ability to troubleshoot and program with electronic related software.
Ability to work with scientific and analytic computer software, calculators, voltage and current meters, electronic probes, process multi-meters and specialized calibration equipment, in an industrial operations setting.
Ability to work a variety of work schedules including emergency, and/or disaster situations.
Ability to troubleshoot, edit, configure and program Controls Systems such as PLCs, Human Machine Interface, drives, SCADA or other proprietary agency/department software with minimal supervision.
Ability to interpret engineering plans, diagrams, schematic, PLC ladder logic, and blue prints.
Ability to work effectively with others.
Ability to pass medical testing and to wear various types of respiratory protection deemed necessary for the environment being worked in for the protection of the employee. The types of respiratory protection devices used are (but not limited to) Half Facepiece, Full Facepiece, Filtering Facepiece, Powered Air-Purifying (PAPRs), Supplied-Air, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBAs), or Combination Type.
Ability to climb ladders, operate forklift , backhoe , automotive and/or other heavy equipment as needed.
Employee is expected to be able to work in and around confined spaces such as wet wells, vaults, manholes, trench boxes, tanks, and in areas of height using ladders, man-lifts of any kind, on top of buildings or tanks/structures wearing a harness and protective gear and/or in environments where toxic or chemical fumes not natural to the atmosphere exist while wearing protective respiratory equipment, as necessary.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoots, installs, maintains, modifies, calibrates, inspects, and repairs instrumentation process control systems, motor starters, controls and variable frequency drives.
Designs, constructs, assembles and rearranges circuits and performs other modifications to operation and test equipment, exhibits and other devices.
Operates electronic controlling, measuring, recording, transmitting, testing and diagnostic equipment in an industrial operations setting.
Performs complex installation, modification, fabrication, repair and maintenance of electronic and/or electrical equipment used in industrial / plant / operations setting in accordance with ISA and/or the National Electric Code (NEC).
Performs advanced analysis and interpretation of test data and may edit PLC programs using specified software.
Controls industrial processes using electronic software and applications such as scientific and analytic computer software, calculators, voltage and current meters, electronic probes, process multi-meters and specialized calibration equipment.
Interprets and ensures compliance with established codes, calculates data necessary for wiring systems, and requisitions supplies and materials needed to complete projects and assignments.
May direct and/or oversee the work of lower level technicians and fellow technical maintenance employees and train lower level technicians and staff in all phases of a variety of electronic instrumentation, equipment, and control systems.
May serve as the lead employee as directed on project teams assigned to a given assignment.
May be required to complete Annual Performance Reviews.
Recommends electronic requirements in support of facilities and/or systems.
Prepares work schedules and coordinates maintenance schedule with operations as well as prepare technical reports of electronic operational issues.
Provides written documentation and reports for compliance inspections.
Performs other related duties as required.
