Our Fleet Ballistic Missile program at our Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific (SWFPAC) in Silverdale, Washington is seeking an Industrial Hygienist - Safety Engineer for our Strategic Missile and Defense line of business. The focus of this role is to recognize, evaluate, and eliminate or control occupational health hazards or environmental stressors arising in the workplace.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/ined education.
  • Previous professional experience evaluating workplace practices against local and/or federal safety standards/guidelines and taking action when discrepancies are identified.
  • Demonstrated strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Office.
  • Be available for minimal travel, ~10% or less.
  • Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a US DoD TOP SECRET clearance.
  • Successfully pass a drug and background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Field experience or education directly related to industrial hygiene processes or application.
  • Can illustrate active effort to gain, or has achieved, Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) accreditation.
  • Take initiative and follow through on assignments.
  • Ability to manage priorities and be flexible.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and trend data.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively within a diverse population of peers and leadership.
  • Knowledge of applicable environmental compliance laws of the EPA, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Prior experience with ESH environments involving ordnance and/or hazardous waste.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring workplace environments by analyzing work operations and processes, materials, equipment, and work habits of employees, measuring the magnitude of exposure to workers of all environmental hazards by selecting or devising methods and instrumentation suitable for such measurements and presenting specific conclusions and recommendations to appropriate management groups.
  • Sustaining documentation at appropriate levels in order to maintain a robust Safety program.
  • Use the appropriate Industrial Hygiene sampling and monitoring instrumentation to characterize chemical and physical hazards in industrial/workplace settings.
  • Perform personal and area sampling of dusts, gases, vapors, noise, and other potential health hazards for analysis.
  • Ensure proper sample collection, sample preservation, and sample shipment of all samples collected.
  • Research industry standards such as OSHA, NIOSH, ANSI, or locally implemented documentation to prepare rules, standards, and procedures as necessary to promote healthful work practices.
  • Review proposed surveys for new installations or changes to work instructions and escalate inabilities with maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Audit programs and conditions at all facilities; provides written reports of findings with recommendations for improvement (where needed) and follow up on implementation.
  • Develop new and creative methods to increase employee awareness of and engagement in ESH compliance programs/initiatives promoting a strong ESH culture across SWFPAC.
