Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Minimum Requirement: 4+ years of experience in relevant safety area.
  • Prior St. Jude or other similar research institutions experience preferred.
  • Equipment maintenance and certification experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of biosafety cabinets or similar systems preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in science or engineering-related field preferred.
  • Prior relevant experience in applicable area preferred (e.g., applied health physics in radiation safety programs; infection prevention and control; EHS).
  • Prior relevant experience in implementation of federal and state regulations and license conditions preferred.
  • Relevant license preferred based on safety area (e.g., Industrial Hygiene: NSF Accredited Class II Biosafety Cabinet Field Certification).

Responsibilities

  • Execute a variety of safety-related tasks across assigned areas.
  • Develop and perform routine and specialized tasks within safety domains such as industrial hygiene, radiation safety, and hazardous materials.
  • Conduct surveys and assessments to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Manage hazardous waste pickups in compliance with safety protocols.
  • Track and evaluate safety risks to support proactive mitigation efforts.
  • Respond to safety incidents and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Troubleshoot, report, and record advanced safety issues related to processes and systems.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation related to safety activities.
  • Assist in maintaining safety standard operating procedures (SOPs), forms, and systems.
  • Proactively engage with personnel and leadership to understand and address safety needs and concerns.
  • Guide and train new safety technicians on standard safety tasks and responsibilities as directed by the supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and institutional goals.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Benefits

  • Compensation range of $21.00 - $35.50 per hour.
