About The Position

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Industrial Engineering Technician to support the development of the Gigafactory in Reno, Nevada. This role focuses on optimizing factory layouts and material flow, contributing to ambitious projects in a fast-paced environment. The technician will work within a small team dedicated to Material Flow Engineering, utilizing quantitative analysis to drive factory decisions and improve production efficiency.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in laying out manufacturing buildings, manufacturing lines, or warehouse layouts.
• Experience with AutoCAD 2D and/or Revit.
• Competency with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel.
• Demonstrated ability to perform detailed analysis necessary for data-driven decisions on factory layout and production line designs.
• Experience modeling material flow and process flow.
• Strong command of the English language, both written and verbal.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with lean manufacturing concepts.
• Familiarity with Industrial Engineering concepts and work measurement/MOST concepts.

Responsibilities

• Allocate and optimize space for production lines, raw material flow, and support functions using tools like Excel, AutoCAD 2D, and Revit.
• Collaborate with factory simulation/modeling teams to develop flow paths and aisle sizing for products, raw materials, and work in progress.
• Define and optimize layouts for production support areas to enhance safety, density, and flow.
• Support the development and analysis of factory layout concepts using proprietary tools to understand and quantify tradeoffs.
• Work with external teams designing production lines to ensure layouts align with the Gigafactory vision.
• Use data-driven analysis to justify space utilization and allocation, collaborating with engineering teammates and stakeholders to mitigate layout conflicts.
• Create, maintain, and audit material flow work measurement and factory layouts to ensure optimal production system efficiency.
