The Industrial Engineer – Automation Tiger Team will be a core member of the team responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing automated manufacturing processes for a new factory. This role requires an expert-level understanding of automation applications, Lean Manufacturing principles, process optimization, and industrial engineering methodologies. The Industrial Engineer will work cross-functionally to ensure that automation solutions meet defined specifications, work within overall manufacturing operations, integrate with existing manufacturing systems (ERP, MES, CMMS, and BMS) and are properly set up to support a data-driven, high-efficiency production under a lights-out automation environment. Additionally, this role will be responsible for defining production routings and bills of materials (BOMs) in ERP and will serve as project manager for industrial engineering-related activities.

  • Provide industrial engineering input into the selection, design, and commissioning of automation technologies.
  • Work closely with automation engineers to ensure manufacturing workflows integrate seamlessly with automated systems.
  • Collaborate with Information Technology partners to ensure that automated solutions integrate effectively with key systems like ERP, MES, CMMS, and BMS.
  • Define and establish routing, work instructions, and BOM so they align with automated manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure that MES is properly configured to track and monitor real-time production data.
  • Support CMMS for preventive maintenance and asset management.
  • Develop data-driven decision-making frameworks to maximize efficiency in a lights-out automated manufacturing environment.
  • Design and optimize factory layouts, material flow systems, and work cells to improve operational efficiency.
  • Develop and implement Lean Manufacturing strategies to eliminate waste and optimize efficiency.
  • Conduct detailed time studies, line balancing, and workflow analysis to enhance productivity.
  • Implement industrial engineering methodologies such as Kaizen, Six Sigma, SMED, and Value Stream Mapping.
  • Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for automated manufacturing processes.
  • Act as the project manager for industrial engineering activities, setting timelines and ensuring deliverables are met.
  • Collaborate with operations, supply chain, automation, and IT teams to optimize workflows and digital systems.
  • Train and mentor stakeholders on Lean principles, system functionalities, and best practices in process optimization.
  • Work with finance and procurement teams to evaluate cost-benefit analyses for process improvements.
  • Strong background in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma.
  • Proven experience working with, adjusting, or implementing ERP, MES, CMMS, and BMS in a lights-out automated manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of automation technologies and how they impact industrial engineering workflows.
  • Desire to work with a small, high performing team that is transforming manufacturing operations.
  • Strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  • Project management experience with the ability to handle multiple high-priority initiatives.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Experience implementing highly automated manufacturing environments is a plus.
