Purpose: The Industrial Engineer is responsible for identifying inefficiencies, leading Kaizen events, performing time studies, reducing material and labor waste, and implementing sustainable process improvements that directly reduce product cost. The Industrial Engineer will work cross-functionally with production, supply chain, quality, and manufacturing engineering to drive measurable operational improvements. This person will have the ability to self-manage multiple assignments and requests in a dynamic work environment and will employ sound design practices in tandem with industry-accepted design practices. The project scope may vary from vehicle final assembly to vessel fabrication and welding. This position is located in Reidsville, NC.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related field
  • 1-5 years relevant manufacturing experience (Assembly and/or fabrication)
  • 3D Modeling Software Experience (SolidWorks preferred)
  • 2D Drafting Software Experience (AutoCAD or DraftSight)
  • Strong working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Experience leading Kaizen events
  • Demonstrated experience conducting time studies and labor analysis
  • Proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
  • High energy, strong communication skills, and the ability to adapt to new challenges
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical manuals
  • Demonstrated success working in a team environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • Sight, hearing, speech and written communication capabilities sufficient to interact well with individuals and groups
  • Familiar with industrial safety equipment and use of common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats
  • Physical Requirements – using hands to handle, control or feel objects and tools, ability to read written instructions, lift and/or move materials up to 50 pounds independently, ability to climb ladders
  • As needed travel domestically and abroad

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in industrial equipment or metal fabrication environments. (Welding, Waterjet, Plasma Cutting, Press Break, Lathe)
  • Six Sigma training or certification (Green Belt or higher)
  • Experience improving material flow and shop-floor layout
  • Experience designing and implementing visual management systems

Responsibilities

  • Cost Reduction (Primary Focus) Identify and implement labor, material, and process cost reductions on standard product lines
  • Quantify and document savings
  • Reduce scrap, rework, excess handling, and batching inefficiencies
  • Support make vs. buy evaluations and cost modeling
  • Improve flow and reduce lead time on high-volume standard products
  • Process Optimization Analyze assembly and fabrication processes for standard products to identify cost, quality, and throughput improvement opportunities
  • Conduct time studies and establish accurate labor standards
  • Map current-state processes (value stream mapping) and develop future-state improvements
  • Identify bottlenecks, batching inefficiencies, excess WIP, and non-value-added activities
  • Identify material waste drivers and implement reduction strategies
  • Implement and maintain standardized work and process controls
  • Continuous Improvement Lead Kaizen events from planning through execution and follow-up
  • Track action items to completion and verify measurable results
  • Support implementation and sustainment of 5S initiatives
  • Support assembly team with day-to-day issues on standard products and complete ECNs
  • Design and implement visual workplace tools to improve efficiency (shadow boards, bento boxes, point-of-use storage, tool organization systems, etc.)
  • Develop practical shop-floor solutions that simplify work and reduce motion waste
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement within production teams
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with Production Supervisors and Operators to implement improvements
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering on tooling, fixtures, and process changes
  • Support Quality with root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Train operators on updated standard work procedures and efficiency tools
