About The Position

The Industrial Design Intern will use their skills in the conceptual process for new product creation within the Polaris product portfolio. The Design candidate will work with an experienced Designer at our Design Studio in Minnesota. The Designer must attend weekly project critiques to maintain a strong Industrial Design focus and must contribute to a professional design process on various projects. The Designer will need to create concepts that meet or exceed our customers’ expectations as determined through the Voice of Customer, by using product descriptions to develop a theme. Daily work will include absorbing criteria-led requirements from Product Managers, Engineers, and Manufacturing. The designs from the Intern may be refined, executed, and utilized up to, and including, production intent. The Design Intern will interact with all peer groups at a level that requires solid decision-making, and they will be required to present their work to various levels of Polaris Leadership. Requirements

  • A Design portfolio is required for consideration. Please submit as a link or PDF; if the link does not work, include a PDF version.
  • Currently enrolled in an Industrial Design program at a recognized Design School.
  • 1+ years experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good team player, great attitude and desire to learn.

Nice To Haves

  • Powersports experience a plus
  • Peer-review experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Sketches and executes original designs through segment category research, while regularly making decisions with guidance from Senior Designers regarding characteristics that fit VOC and Brand DNA while incorporating these to improve his/her work.
  • Presents concepts and ideas to Design peers and Design Management alongside Senior and Lead designers and provides project feedback during the weekly program meetings.
  • Presents team members with the story behind their designs and taking notes about next steps and actions to progress their designs.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional team, including Engineering and Product Managers, on their respective projects.
  • Works with Clay Modelers if their theme/design is selected.
  • Works with Digital Modelers during theme/design development.
  • Creates Digital-Design assets through digital software provided to you through the Polaris Design Dept.
  • Should be proficient with software including, but not limited to: Blender, Gravity Sketch, Keyshot, Alias, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Design development will be presented weekly on display monitors or large-format printouts during design critiques.
