About The Position

State Garden Inc. is seeking an Industrial Controls Technician to join their Maintenance department in Chelsea, MA. This full-time position involves advanced technical tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and servicing of three-phase electrical systems. The technician will monitor automated equipment control systems and perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of electrical equipment in an industrial setting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; higher education or technical/trade school preferred.
  • 5+ years of related experience in controls programming and industrial controls technology.
  • 3+ years of experience with industrial manufacturing equipment required.
  • Knowledge and practical application of PLCs, HMIs, process instrumentation, machine control systems, VFDs, servo drives, power distribution (up to 480V), control system networking, and electrical safety.
  • Proven track record of successful completion of projects involving systems commissioning, software integration, calibration, or troubleshooting.

Nice To Haves

  • Powered Industrial Truck certification.
  • Experience in a manufacturing/production environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and navigates Process Logic Controllers (PLCs) for automation systems.
  • Installs and repairs industrial electronic equipment including input/output networks, data highways, variable speed drives, and process control equipment.
  • Installs and uploads PLC programs for various automated control systems.
  • Supports, creates, integrates, programs, troubleshoots, and improves processing and packaging control systems.
  • Reads and updates electrical and control schematics and instrumentation diagrams for processing and packaging equipment.
  • Utilizes a multimeter for diagnosis.
  • Maintains a library of backup programs for various equipment.
  • Keeps software updated when new versions become available.
  • Interfaces, maintains, and calibrates vision systems, checkweighers, metal detectors, sensors, contactors, and relays.
  • Configures and maintains industrial networks such as Ethernet and CC-Link.
  • Diagnoses failures on motors, speed controls, power sources, and E-Stop circuits.
  • Provides technical support for equipment troubleshooting and controls/equipment modifications.
  • Trains others and assists in training new employees.
  • Performs both uptime and downtime preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance work.
  • Participates in Root Cause Analysis and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with vendors for material deliveries.
  • Maintains OEM documentation and amends it when changes are made.
  • Assists and may lead installation of new technology and updates on existing machines.
  • Acts as a liaison with internal resources and outside contractors.
