About The Position

Ellsworth Corporation, a global, industry leading distributor of specialty chemicals and equipment and adhesive manufacturer currently has a Industrial Automation Engineer Internship available. This role reports into our Ellsworth Dispensing Solutions Division, located in Sparks, NV. This is a full-time summer internship opportunity (approximately 10-12 weeks). What Our Internship Program Will Do for You As an intern, you will take your studies and continue to build your skills. You will be provided an individualized work plan that will guide you throughout the program, allowing you to make an impact to the business. Throughout this opportunity, you will receive coaching from your manager and mentor. You will have an opportunity to learn about our company, while working alongside a team of experienced professionals in the field. You will have the chance to participate in a variety of activities and projects designed to give you exposure to our business. Additionally Ongoing guidance and feedback Opportunity to build professional relationships Network with other professionals and interns Cross-functional exposure to different departments and leaders As an Industrial Automation Engineer Intern, you will maintain software to control industrial equipment. Design, develop, and install electronic control systems for dispensing equipment, referencing existing documentation. Develops drawings and specifications for existing and new design projects. Assists with the design of mechanical systems and/or machinery utilizing design and ERP software.

Requirements

  • Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate OR graduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno during the Spring ‘26 semester
  • Fall ‘25 or earlier graduates are not eligible for the Wolf Pack STEM Internship Program
  • Good problem solving and analytic skills (i.e., can conduct root cause analysis, make recommendations, and track results).
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing continuous improvement methodologies
  • Ability to update and document manufacturing process, inspection, and testing procedures
  • Capability to communicate, and train shop floor team members on processing information
  • Basic knowledge of automation and electronics components and electronic assemblies
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical personnel
  • Ability to lift 25 Pounds, on occasion up to 50 Pounds
  • Pack STEM internships require interns to complete 150 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications in SolidWorks (i.e. CSWA, CSWP, CSWE, CPPA, etc) and/or Engineering in Training (EIT), preferred

Responsibilities

  • Modifies existing programs in C++, Java, CodeSYS, etc.
  • Navigates, configures and troubleshoots Linux systems
  • Optimizes, and adapts electronic control systems and instruments to automate and monitor industrial processes
  • Assists with developing technical designs, process diagrams, SCADA block diagrams, and control schematics to implement automation controls
  • Configures existing systems using PLC and HMI techniques
  • Models, tests, and measures output and data to analyze performance or quality issues and develop solutions
  • Submit and review code pull requests
  • Develop and modify Driveworks Logic to automate the generation of drawings, models of mechanical assemblies, quotes, and supporting documentation.
