About The Position

Position Criteria: Demonstrate aptitude for performing tasks listed Must exhibit ethical practices and be a role model to students Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable Performance Criteria: Recruit, train, mentor, and supervise assistant speech coaches assisting administrators with the hiring process; assign assistant coaches to speech team categories Recruit, audition, and roster student participants into speech team categories Create rehearsal schedule in collaboration with assistant coaches; reserve rehearsal facilities through district’s preferred event management system Obtain, plan, and prepare performance materials; obtain performance rights as necessary Conduct rehearsals and work with students in conceptualizing the material, developing vocal and physical delivery, blocking, and other technical and artistic areas of presentation Coordinate necessary technical needs which may include set, props, and costumes Register team for district contest, state contest, and All-State festivals by state deadlines Maintain the speech program’s financial records; secure income through the school budget, fundraising, etc. Coordinate high school speech team mock contest / community showcase prior to district contest Arrange transportation to contest for students and equipment Confirm academic eligibility of student participants Support performers at contests Document student concerns and behavior; consult with assistant coaches on such matters Communicate regularly with parents and guardians, keeping them informed of schedules, lettering criteria, etc. Implement home-sponsored contests, including recruiting and training volunteers Enhance coaching development by attending summer workshops, fall conventions, spring meetings, and other enrichment opportunities which may include becoming a certified IHSSA judge Tabulate IHSSA achievement awards and high school lettering awards along with co-organizing awards night Promote the program through district and public awareness Handle disciplinary issues; consult with parents and/or administrators when appropriate Keep the district’s administration informed of matters deemed necessary Collaborate with Head 9th Grade coach as necessary regarding High School Mentorship Team Lead program, transportation, and financial records
