About The Position

Provides subject matter expertise in the development and execution of programs within the scope of student learning and development. Strives to create a welcoming work environment for all. Responsible for the coordination and assessment of programs and support services developed for students through the Indigenous Cultures Resource Center (ICRC). The center serves all students who need support and it is housed in the Department of Student Support & Engagement. Primarily responsible for services such as advising and support for students who are members of federally recognized Tribes and other students who are connected to the ICRC. Provides support and referrals for university initiatives designed to increase retention and improve degree completion. Assists with the implementation of Tribal Consultation Policy, and serving as a resource for the campus community on issues related to Indigenous culture and Tribal Relations.

• Skills in developing new programs and services.

• Ability to apply comprehensive, culturally inclusive knowledge of student developmental theory to educational programming and services.
• Ability to work irregular and flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
• Ability to drive a vehicle for the purpose of conducting university business and meet the criteria for operation of state-owned-vehicles – Policy 615
• Associate’s degree from an accredited institution
• At least one year of work experience pertaining to social issues and/or cultural programming in higher education or community organization
• Experience working with Tribal Nations and Tribal communities
• Valid driver's license
• Candidates must be independently, legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain their work authorization without the support or help of UW-Superior throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Writes, edits, and publishes content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns
• Creates and maintains schedules, logistics, and resources for one or multiple student affairs programs, activities, and/or services
• Generates and analyzes reports of curricular and unit outcomes
• Serves as a subject matter expert regarding student affairs to internal and external stakeholders
• Organizes student-focused programming and resources to promote new and ongoing educational initiatives
• Conduct routine outreach to students encouraging their participation in programs and services within the ICRC.
• Implement programs and events that promote Indigenous lifeways and experiences.
• Coordinate initiatives that engage and increase access, retention and degree completion for students who are connected to the ICRC (e.g., cohort initiatives, mentoring programs, retreats).
• Develop tools to assess student needs; to identify negative or restrictive environmental conditions; to measure achievement of student learning outcomes and to ensure high quality programming.
• Serve as liaison for and assist with recognized student organizations such as Native Nations Student Organization.
• Provide development and implementation of programming and campus workshops that focus on Indigenous cultures that are open to all students.
• Collaborate with Student Affairs offices and other campus partners to provide specialized leadership development opportunities for Indigenous students.
• Coordinate evaluations/assessment for the ICRC, including program and student performance.
• Recruit, train, and develop and serve as the primary supervisor for ICRC student staff.
• Plan, implement and manage technology and web-based programs, social media and other communication and marketing strategies related to the ICRC.
• Oversee the scheduling and utilization of the ICRC.
• Assist in the planning and implementation of the UW-System Tribal Consultation policy and workplan.
• Collaborate with Tribal Nations and agencies in the region that provide resources for students.
• Serve as a campus resource for Indigenous education and educational opportunities for faculty, administrative offices, academic support programs, and student organizations.
• Provide feedback to supervisor on operational and administrative matters including research of best practices and making recommendations for program changes and improvements.
• Complete required trainings and professional development as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.
