The Indigenous Outreach Coordinator at the University of Arizona is responsible for enhancing Community Engagement and Outreach Programs by connecting with the Indigenous community in Arizona. This role focuses on providing health screenings, education, and linking individuals to health or social services, particularly in the context of HIV/STI prevention and care. The position requires conducting outreach services, delivering health-related information, and managing relationships with community partners.

  • Provide health screening/testing services throughout Arizona with a focus on HIV and STI testing.
  • Conduct brief risk assessments and assist users in creating individualized prevention plans based on their results.
  • Collect and process blood (finger-stick and venipuncture) and STI specimens, preparing them for laboratory processing.
  • Communicate HIV test results to participants.
  • Deliver clear, understandable, current, and accurate information to clients, consumers, and community members.
  • Coordinate with existing and new sites for program implementation.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners.
  • Assist with the creation of abstracts and manuscripts.
  • Participate in conferences and meetings arranged by funders, including travel as needed.
  • Document provided services into multiple databases for the state, funder, and program.
  • Maintain files and data for reporting purposes.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission and objectives of the Community Engagement and Outreach Programs.
  • Provide tailored project implementation in a culturally humble, relevant, and appropriate manner.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • In-depth understanding of HIV and STI prevention, screening, and treatment protocols.
  • Knowledge of community health principles and public health best practices.
  • Awareness of cultural competency and humility, especially regarding the LGBTQ+ community and marginalized populations.
  • Ability to conduct HIV and STI tests, including blood (finger-stick and venipuncture) and specimen collection.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to provide clear, accurate, and empathetic information to clients and community members.
  • Knowledge in data management, documentation, and report preparation.
  • Ability to manage crises calmly and effectively, including de-escalating skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong, positive relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple sites, ensuring consistent delivery of services.
  • Ability to conduct academic outputs, such as abstracts and manuscripts, and presentations.
