Together, we provide clients with superior market access and index investment outcomes through: World class talent, operating at the intersection of investment insight, markets expertise, risk management and process design Technology at the heart of our processes, with in-business tech teams that create cutting-edge IP, providing an advantage in quality, scale, and risk control A focus on transforming markets, driving and advocating for more accessible, resilient, and transparent markets to deliver more choice and lower costs for investors Job Purpose/Background: The Index Equity Technology team within BGM (Blackrock Global Markets) is seeking to expand and improve business efficiency, scalability and deliver faster. This business-side role entails working with Portfolio Managers, Citizen Developers, and the Aladdin teams, in order to build a best-in-class investment platform. The person filling this role will facilitate the development, enablement and maintenance of portfolio engineering systems for index investment processes. A successful candidate will be able to understand the index equity portfolio construction process, influence process improvement, lead partner relationships, enable Citizen developers' community, and reliably build, review and deliver working code that both serves the immediate need and is robust and extensible enough to evolve and support scale as our business grows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in computer science/engineering/quantitative field with strong computing skills or equivalent experience
  • Exceptional technical and programming skills in Python (preferred), Java, C++ and working with traditional and cloud databases
  • Proficiency in software development life cycle (SDLC) that covers agile development methodologies, code versioning tools, and continuous integration
  • Experience writing functional and technical specification documents
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and project management skills
  • Excellent teammate with motivation and inquisitiveness and has comfort with ambiguity
  • Effective interpersonal skills and partner management skills
  • High level of self-motivation with ability to own and drive multiple projects at once
  • High degree of professional integrity, discretion and judgment

Nice To Haves

  • Interest and experience in innovative technology like AI is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Implement an innovative platform, primarily in Python, for the development, deployment, maintenance and monitoring of investment systems
  • Identify, and implement, opportunities for improvement of operational processes
  • Understand the BlackRock technology platform and integrate the investment platform into it
  • Enable Citizen Developers to deliver tactical and strategic solutions to automate manual processes
  • Collaborate with BlackRock technology teams that support BGM, to ensure that they understand our requirements and build well-suited tools
  • Build out tactical solutions to accelerate meeting business needs while continuing to plan out strategic long-term solution
