We are seeking a reliable, patient, and attentive Independent Living Services (ILS) Instructor to provide one-on-one afternoon support for an individual with Mild Intellectual Disability. Services will focus on increasing independence in daily living skills, community navigation with safety training and the community gym. This is perfect for a candidate who wants to help a young person become more independent. Primary Goals of Support Improve health by exercise. Support safe and confident community navigation Wandering off–Related Challenges The individual gets easily distracted and will wander away, it presents unique challenges that staff must be prepared to address, including: Navigation & Safety Additional guidance may be required to safely navigate environments Staff may need to provide orientation support, or introduce adaptive strategies or technology (e.g., tactile organization systems or GPS tools designed for elopement). Communication & Accessibility Tasks involving written or visual information may require adaptation Adapted Training Needs Supporting these needs may require additional training or preparation to ensure effective, safe, and respectful services Challenges Related to Location The individual’s location may present logistical considerations, including: Limited Staff Availability Living in a remote or underserved area may reduce the pool of available and qualified staff, impacting consistency of services Transportation Barriers Staff may experience commuting challenges due to limited public transportation options, heavy traffic, or difficult accessibility to the home
