About The Position

The Independent Living Instructor (ILS) at East Bay Innovations (EBI) is responsible for empowering individuals with developmental disabilities to achieve personal goals of independence and community participation. This role involves working one-on-one with clients, teaching essential life skills in a supportive and motivating environment. The position is full-time, requiring a commitment to assist clients in various aspects of daily living, including money management, medical care, and socialization.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be a driver with a reliable vehicle.
  • No prior experience required, but a desire to make a difference is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in social work, social services, occupational therapy, mental health, or case management is a plus.
  • Ability to teach and be teachable.

Responsibilities

  • Work one-on-one with individuals with developmental disabilities to empower them towards independence.
  • Teach life skills in a personalized and professional manner.
  • Manage a caseload of approximately 5-9 clients throughout Alameda County.
  • Assist clients with money management, medical and medication management, and basic cooking.
  • Support clients in utilizing public transportation and locating affordable housing.
  • Help clients obtain and maintain benefits such as Social Security and Medi-Cal.
  • Encourage community involvement and socialization goals.
  • Provide household maintenance support.
