About The Position

As an Income Tax Manager for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you will be responsible for overseeing tax operations and managing the workflow of the expatriate income tax team, ensuring compliance with tax laws, tax planning, and projections to minimize tax liabilities for expatriate employees. This manager position works with senior leaders in the Church's Tax Division to develop and implement the organization's tax strategy and manage tax reporting.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, business management, or related field.
  • 7 years of applicable work experience.
  • Possesses expert working knowledge of income tax issues.
  • Has a current CPA.
  • Possesses ability to lead and develop employees and build effective teams and foster teamwork.
  • Ability to drive strategic direction.
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills, analytical thinking skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Is detail oriented.
  • Has excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Has solid computer, word processing, and database management skills.
  • To successfully perform the essential functions of the job there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time and using computer monitors/equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Significant recent experience preparing and reviewing 1040 income tax returns.
  • Experience with expatriate employee tax compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing workflow for the expatriate tax team and managing the preparation of 50-60 Church expatriate employee 1040 income tax returns. This includes managing the team's information requests, preparation, signature review, client delivery, and filing of tax forms related to individual taxation.
  • Preparing and reviewing tax returns and tax equalization reconciliations and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws.
  • As needed, meeting with Church employees and Church leaders to prepare and advise on tax projections, estimated payments, minister housing allowances, and tax withholdings.
  • On rare occasions, managing tax audits, coordinating with tax agencies, and ensuring the accuracy of tax-related data.
  • Overseeing 2 direct reports, providing mentorship and assessing their work effectiveness.
  • Reviewing tax documents, workpapers, and financial records for accuracy and compliance, and ensuring the correct application of tax laws.
  • Keeping up to date with changing tax laws and regulations, and informing senior management of significant impacts
