This candidate will be an integral part of a high performing team with a particular focus on the federal and state income tax compliance of Nelnet and its multiple joint ventures. This position offers a hybrid work option. Nelnet values flexibility and understands the importance of work-life integration. Our hybrid work environment allows associates living within 30 miles of our Lincoln Nebraska office location to work remotely for part of the week, while also fostering collaboration and team connection through in-office presence three days per week. Please note that we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Accounting or Business Administration with an emphasis in Taxation.
  • 2 years of tax compliance and return preparation experience in a public accounting firm, tax research & planning experience, and a good general knowledge of GAAP.
  • Strong Organizational Skills: able to take large amounts of data, organize effectively, and present in a meaningful and concise manner.
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Effective Communicator: Able and willing to communicate with associates and individuals outside the organization, both verbally and in writing.
  • Independent self-starter.
  • Possesses excellent judgment and analytical skills, with an ability to follow tasks through completion.
  • Exhibits positive energy, drive and pride in your work.
  • Teamwork: able and willing to support the tax team in a variety of projects.
  • Extensive Microsoft Excel experience: utilizing a variety of functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Track - Preferred
  • Multi-state tax preparation experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare federal and state income tax filings and supporting documentation for various joint ventures
  • Prepare state income tax filings and apportionment support for Nelnet’s consolidated subsidiaries
  • Prepare various gross receipt tax return filings
  • Analyze tax correspondence and route to responsible parties
  • Perform occasional tax research and planning analysis
