As a member of the National Tax Office State & Local Team, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of state and local income/franchise tax projects, including tax planning, restructuring, transaction advisory, audit defense and appeals, state tax return review, taxability research, writing and correspondence.

  • Research, review, and prepare deliverables concerning state and local income/franchise tax matters.
  • Assist clients with various state income tax compliance matters including return review.
  • Assist clients with state and local tax controversies including preparing clients for discussions with auditors, assisting with the representation of clients at administrative appeals, appeal meetings and preparing written protests.
  • Assist with the negotiation and drafting of settlement terms and ruling requests with state and local taxing authorities.
  • Assist with the identification and presentation of multistate tax opportunities to internal and external clients.
  • Manage voluntary disclosure projects.
  • Assist with buy and sell-side transaction advisory projects.
  • Develop multistate expertise by keeping current with latest legislation and case law related to state income/franchise tax.
  • Assist with the preparation of thought leadership insights and articles for both internal and external distribution
  • Participate in practice development activities focused on forming strong relationships with clients, prospective clients and governmental personnel.
  • Secondary assistance with non-income franchise service areas such as sales and use tax, credits and incentives, and property tax
  • You have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (required); a Master's of Taxation, MBA, LLM in Taxation or JD are preferred.
  • You have 2+ years of experience with state and local income/franchise tax (required).
  • You have a valid CPA license or JD, or are working towards obtaining a CPA license or JD.
  • You have a well-rounded knowledge of state and local tax principles and experience with tax research and state income tax returns.
  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • You have the ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines by setting priorities with work projects.
  • You have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and clients.
  • You are proficient with Microsoft Office Excel and Word.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States now or in the future without visa sponsorship.
