About The Position

The Montgomery County Department of Parks is seeking an enthusiastic Inclusive Recreation Program Aide to assist with day programs for adults with disabilities, 55+ programs, summer camp operations, and ensuring accessibility at special events. This part-time position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working in a fun, supportive environment. Requirements

  • Must have a desire and interest in working with people with disabilities.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid driver license.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Must pass background checks and screenings.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in recreational programs, customer service, or related fields.
  • Previous experience with developing marketing materials, including using online software such as 'Canva'.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Interest in nature based programming (kayaking, gardening, fishing, mountain biking) or interest in history, ice skating or tennis is preferred.
  • Ability to speak / communicate in a second language.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing new day programs for adults with disabilities and 55+ programs.
  • Provide support in the preparation and execution of summer camp activities, including logistics and communication with parents and caregivers.
  • Assist in the promotion of upcoming programs including writing program letters, updating the Parks webpage, as necessary and creating program flyers.
  • Assist in ensuring special events are accessible and inclusive for all patrons; coordinating necessary accommodations, as needed.
  • Set up and organize equipment, materials, and program spaces for activities and events.
  • Interact with participants in a friendly and supportive manner, addressing their needs and providing guidance.
  • Maintain safety standards and respond to emergencies, including administering basic first aid.
  • Collect and maintain accurate records, including participant feedback and attendance data.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and participants.
  • Drive Commission vehicles as needed, upon completing defensive driving training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program success.
