Unique opportunity to join the platform engineering team of one of the largest global e-Commerce companies to learn how large scale networks get engineered, built and operated within datacenters, backbone and network security layers. Ideal candidates are expected to be conceptually solid on network technology fundamentals as well as possess strong motivation to learn and internalize various aspects of production networks quickly. eBay plans to invest well on training ideal candidates to make them capable and effective in working on live load-bearing network that fuels the e-commerce business. This position can pave the path for a career in network engineering field, an area with high demand but limited talent availability.

  • Act as the first line of defense to handle and mitigate network related issues that can possibly impact eBay's customer experience.
  • Have base level proficiency in eBay's datacenter, backbone, Internet connectivity, security controls, traffic management and application stacks behaviors.
  • Cross correlate and troubleshoot issues quickly and effectively.
  • Execute basic changes in the network infrastructure to instrument organic growth and capacity restore.
  • Learn and understand existing mechanisms and work on evolving them continually through appropriate automation and tools.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals like TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6.
  • Basic knowledge of routing protocols like BGP, OSPF.
  • Knowledge of network protocols like ARP, DHCP, DNS, TFTP.
  • Understanding of Routers, Switches, VLAN, WAN, Internet Connectivity.
  • Base level experience in Linux/Unix systems and open source tools.
  • Knowledge in languages like Python.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to cross-correlate events and troubleshoot issues quickly.
  • Experience in working on HW platforms from vendors like Cisco, Arista and Juniper is a plus.
  • Certification in JNCIA, CCNA or equivalent preferred.
  • 1-2 years experience in hands-on router or switch configuration preferred.
  • Base pay range: $89,600 - $158,100.
  • Target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable).
