About The Position

The Incident Management Coordinator for Traffic Operations at the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is responsible for planning, executing, and reviewing incident and emergency management operations. This role involves leading and directing various committees, coordinating with emergency services, and preparing response plans for traffic management during emergencies and special events. The coordinator will also oversee operations during emergencies and assist in mobilizing incident teams, ensuring effective communication and coordination among various agencies.

Requirements

  • Experience in public safety operations and emergency response coordination.
  • Knowledge of National Incident Management principles and practices.
  • Ability to plan and schedule 24-hour public service operations.
  • Experience working independently and promoting open communications.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities in traffic operations incidents.
  • Ability to make sound decisions during emergency situations.
  • Valid driver's license.

  • Experience in real-time emergency operations and incident management.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, and review incident and emergency management operations.
  • Lead and direct Area and Regional Incident Management Committees.
  • Coordinate with emergency service and incident management organizations at various levels.
  • Prepare incident and emergency response plans and conduct necessary training.
  • Oversee traffic management planning for emergency operations and special events.
  • Assist the TOC Operations Manager in overseeing 24/7 operations during emergencies.
  • Prepare and submit reports for incident management activities.
  • Serve as VDOT On-Scene Commander for high-profile emergencies.
  • Assist Duty Officers with incident management practices and interagency coordination.
