About The Position

The In Room Dining Order Taker is primarily responsible for providing prompt and courteous service. He/she will have knowledge of our room service menu offerings in order to provide guests a luxury quality in-room meal or beverage experience in a hotel environment where attention to detail is key. The In Room Dining Order Taker will ensure the timeliness and enjoyment of every meal.

Requirements

  • Professional demeanor appropriate for a luxury environment.
  • Knowledge of Micros or other Point of Sale (POS) systems.
  • Must be of minimum legal age to serve alcohol according to state law.
  • Able to work under pressure in a fast paced environment.
  • Effective at listening, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by guests.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Able to communicate in the English language.
  • Able to work flexible schedules including holidays and weekends and able to perform multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of basic food handling policies and procedures as well as the techniques and equipment for preparing and presenting food products for consumption, including storage/handling techniques, proper chemical handling, and sanitation standards.
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Physically fit in order to lift, pull and push items up to 50 pounds.
  • Also requires standing/walking/reaching and bending throughout shift.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous food and beverage experience in a hotel environment preferred.
  • Food handling certificate & TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) certificate an asset.
  • Knowledge of food and wine an asset.
  • Second language is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Answer telephones using appropriate etiquette.
  • Take all guests room service orders and communicate them to the servers.
  • Answer questions on menu selections, and check with kitchen Associates.
  • Make appropriate suggestion of food and beverages (employs suggestive selling and up selling technique).
  • Notify guests and management of delays in service delivery.
  • Communicate additional meal requirements, allergies, dietary needs, and special requests to the kitchen.
  • Know ingredients, preparation, and proper presentation of all menu items and specials and ensure that every product delivered to the guest adheres to the highest quality possible.
  • Record transaction in POS system at time of order.
  • Complete closing reports and process all payment methods.
  • Ensure proper details about the order and pricing/delivery times are communicated to the Kitchen and servers according to hotel standards.
  • Follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverage.
  • Know layout of room service area/hotel and location of all equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and condition of the work areas and equipment.
  • Ensure service trays are up to JW Marriott Turnberry Miami Resort & Spa before presenting it to a guest.
  • Assist in setting up hotel amenities.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as required by management.
