About The Position

Applerouth Education is a group of passionate educators who believe that students are more than a score. We’re looking for driven, empathetic tutors to join our team and support students through customized, one-on-one instruction for the SAT, ACT, and academic subjects. Our tutors enjoy autonomy, consistent support, and ongoing paid training. This flexible, part-time role is ideal for those who want to make a meaningful impact while maintaining control over their schedule. Whether you’re a seasoned tutor or new to education, we provide all the tools you need to succeed — including industry-leading materials, coaching, and access to our supportive team. If you’re excited by the goal of building better learners for life, we’d love to meet you. As a Guidewell Education brand, we’re guided by a mission to deliver transformational educational experiences that support students as whole people. The core values that shape this mission and our work together as colleagues are: student-centered, empathetic, expert practitioners, and growth-oriented. These principles show up in every coaching relationship we build and every decision we make. You can read more about how our team lives these values at guidewelleducation.com/about. Applerouth is seeking to hire several in-home, one-on-one test prep tutors to serve the Chicago metro area, particularly in the western suburbs and Arlington Heights. We provide non-taxed travel! Applicants must be willing to tutor all sections of both the SAT and ACT - this, after comprehensive paid training, of course; however, a baseline knowledge of high school ELA & math content is needed. Current Priority Hiring Areas: We are specifically looking for tutors residing in or willing to commute to: Western Suburbs: Naperville, Elmhurst, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, La Grange, and surrounding areas. North Suburbs: Deerfield, Northbrook, Highland Park, Lake Forest, and Libertyville. Northwest Suburbs: Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, and Barrington. South Chicago/City: Candidates living in Chicago proper must be willing to travel to the South Side (Hyde Park, Woodlawn, Mt. Greenwood).

Requirements

  • Strong academic background and content mastery in tutoring subjects.
  • Passing score on our short pre-interview SAT/ACT content quiz.
  • Reliable internet connection (for online trainings/meetings/sessions) and reliable transportation (for in-person sessions. Expect 30-45 minutes of travel on average to a student's home).
  • Availability to tutor during after-school hours and weekends.
  • At least one year of college completed.
  • Passion for helping students succeed and confidence in your ability to mentor others.
  • Willingness to complete Applerouth’s paid training program and participate in mock testing.
  • A Long-Term Mindset: We look for a minimum one-year commitment to ensure consistency for our students.
  • The "Ramp-Up" Reality: New tutors should expect a significant time investment in prep work for their first 2–4 students. While we provide the materials, mastering the "Applerouth Method" takes time. We want candidates who view this as a professional craft, not just a quick side-hustle. We do provide training pay and additional services rendered pay for prep for sessions that exceed what is expected.
