About The Position

The Underwriter - C14 is a strategic professional responsible for underwriting requests for credit extensions, performing detailed financial analyses, and ensuring compliance with credit policies. This role requires excellent communication and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to influence and guide colleagues and external customers. The Underwriter is accountable for significant business results and plays a key role in resource management and allocation within the team.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in a financial institution, preferably in a loan officer or underwriting role.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting (preferred).
  • Advanced analytical skills to read and assess financial statements and projections.
  • Knowledge of intermediate accounting theory and its application in credit underwriting.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem recognition and resolution skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team.
  • Proficient in spreadsheet and word processing applications, particularly Excel and Word.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Credit training is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist bankers and Underwriters in underwriting requests for credit extensions for new and existing clients.
  • Perform detailed financial analysis on companies, including trend and ratio analysis.
  • Interpret financial information and perform collateral analysis on various assets.
  • Prepare monthly and/or quarterly reviews of existing borrowers to track compliance with loan covenants.
  • Build a solid understanding of Citibank products and services within Commercial Banking.
  • Coordinate with bankers on customer calls and site visits as appropriate.
  • Conduct industry and geographical research and other due diligence as needed.
  • Familiarize with Citibank credit policies and regulatory practices to ensure compliance.
  • Provide training for less experienced credit officers and credit center staff.
  • Backup the team manager in workflow distribution and monitoring as needed.
  • Recommend process changes to achieve greater efficiency.
  • Assess risk in business decisions, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.
