About The Position

The Coastal Tourism Analyst Intern will support advancing the WWF US Oceans Team's new Coastal Tourism Strategy by conducting analyses to identify best fit locations within WWF-US Oceans' priority seascapes (Eastern Pacific, Southwest Indian Ocean, and Western Pacific) to launch new potential coastal and marine conservation tourism programs. To support this objective, the intern will conduct a GIS mapping exercise to combine several data layers and identify best fit opportunities for tourism engagement within Oceans Team priority seascapes.

Requirements

  • Only enrolled students are eligible for this internship as you must be able to receive academic credit from your current academic institution.
  • Able to work either part time or full time, depending on class schedule and availability.
  • Expertise in GIS (ArcGIS or other software).
  • Conservation and/or science background.
  • Grounding in research methods.
  • Coursework in data and analytics (i.e. data science, modeling, statistical computing, data visualization).

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in sustainable travel and tourism.
  • Expertise in marine science, ecology, and/or geography.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a GIS mapping exercise to combine several data layers and identify best fit opportunities for tourism engagement within Oceans Team priority seascapes.
  • Map all available data.
  • Interview WWF country office representatives to gather input on country priority locations.
  • Analyze mapping results to determine best opportunity locations.
  • Recommend three locations to evaluate against the Conservation Tourism Scorecard.
  • Present results of the project to select members of the WWF US Oceans Team.
