About The Position

The Import/Export Specialist plays a critical role in strengthening Rain Bird’s trade compliance posture by centralizing key import and export compliance functions within the Compliance organization. This position is responsible for managing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) product qualification records, Export Administration Regulations (EAR) commodity classification, Section 232 derivative assessments, country of origin determinations, and customs valuation activities to ensure regulatory accuracy and audit readiness. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, trade compliance knowledge, and advanced Excel capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in international business, supply chain, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, legal analysis, or risk‑based roles, preferably within international trade, customs, export controls, or related regulated environments.
  • Strong analytical and regulatory interpretation skills, with the ability to research, apply, and document trade regulations, rulings, and guidance; legal background or experience in regulatory interpretation preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables and complex formulas.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical, organizational, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Compile Free Trade Agreement (FTA) eligibility solicitation (including USMCA and other applicable FTAs), ensuring complete supporting documentation, and issuance of compliant origin certifications to support duty savings on import declarations and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate commodity classification activities under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), including determination and documentation of ECCNs, mass market exemptions, and related export control requirements to ensure accurate export filings and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare Section 232 and Section 301 derivative assessments, ensuring proper reporting and documentation to support import entry accuracy and audit readiness.
  • Coordinate and manage Product Data Element (PDE) and export-related approvals, ensuring export classifications—including ECCNs, Schedule B codes, country of origin, and Section 232/301 indicators—are accurate, well documented, and captured at product launch to support global master data integrity.
  • Maintain records for and administer denied parties screening to ensure compliance with U.S. sanctions and export control requirements, including Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) restricted party lists; document results and support issue escalation and resolution as needed.
  • Support international cross-border troubleshooting, including escalation and resolution of import and export compliance issues impacting shipments.
  • Coordinate Temporary Import Bond (TIB) tracking, ensuring proper documentation, timely reconciliations and closures, and avoidance of penalties or liquidated damages.
  • Maintain internal classification, FTA, and compliance databases, ensuring consistency, data accuracy, and readiness for internal and external audits.
  • Collaborate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, Customer Service, Supply Chain, Engineering, and other internal stakeholders to resolve classification, documentation, shipment processing, and cross-border compliance issues.
  • Use advanced Excel functions (e.g., VLOOKUP, PivotTables, Power Query, Macros) to analyze large data sets, perform duty impact assessments, and improve compliance tracking.
  • Utilize data analytics and visualization tools to create dashboards and presentations that track compliance performance, identify gaps, and support internal reporting and leadership update
