The Import and Export Specialist position at Ferguson is a hybrid role based out of the Newport News headquarters, allowing for a flexible work schedule of three days in the office and two days remote. This role is crucial in providing analytical, research, and organizational support related to customs and trade compliance, which is essential for the company's efforts in new and existing product development, vendor selection, and risk management. The specialist will be responsible for identifying and managing compliance risks while recommending opportunities to improve workflows. In this position, the specialist will coordinate all aspects of the importing process, which includes managing transportation, documentation, invoicing, payment, and system data maintenance. The role requires maintaining knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and standards from Customs and Border Protection and other government agencies. The specialist will support the department's requirements for documentation collection, evaluation, and retention, and will also assist in systems integration related to customs operations and trade compliance. The specialist will serve as a key contact for internal stakeholders and external service providers, including customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government agencies. Responsibilities also include research and preparation of binding rulings, scope rulings, post-entry amendments, and HTS classification for all merchandise categories. The role demands timely and accurate management of daily requests for information related to import entry processing, as well as support for the international export program, including screenings and preparation of necessary export documents. Additionally, the specialist will be involved in post-shipment document reviews for customs audits and will collect, enter, and validate product and vendor data to support onboarding and purchase order processes. Reporting on department productivity and metrics will also be a significant part of the role, along with providing analytical support for other compliance initiatives as needed.
