The Immigration Specialist at George Mason University plays a crucial role in supporting the Office of International Programs and Services (OIPS) by managing various administrative functions that underpin the office's service mission. This position involves regulatory advising, serving as an F-1 Designated School Official, processing document requests, and providing essential support to the advising team. The Immigration Specialist will be responsible for staffing the front desk, managing communications via phone and email with students, scholars, departments, and admissions units, and handling special projects as assigned by the Executive Director and Associate Director. In this role, the Immigration Specialist will support the International Advisors by utilizing the International Student and Scholar Management System and SEVIS databases to run reports, import data, and ensure compliance with immigration regulations for new, continuing, and alumni international students. The Specialist will also be tasked with processing various document requests, including travel endorsements and employment requests, while applying federal regulations to ensure compliance. Responding to inquiries from students and academic units, the Specialist will assist in hosting virtual walk-ins and orientations, manage front desk operations, and maintain electronic sign-in data. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to handle front-line issues effectively. The Immigration Specialist will also be expected to perform support functions for the advising staff and manage special projects as directed.
