About The Position

This internship program is designed for current undergraduate students interested in immigration law, international human rights, or public interest work. Interns will gain hands-on exposure to the day-to-day operations of an immigration law practice, with a focus on humanitarian and family-based immigration matters, including asylum, deportation defense, family petitions, and advocacy before international bodies. Interns will join the team for one semester under a hybrid model, working approximately 15–20 hours per week for 10–12 weeks, including one in-person day each week at our DC office. This is a non-client-facing role that provides meaningful opportunities to develop legal research, case preparation, and administrative skills in a supportive, mission-driven environment.

Requirements

  • Current or recent undergraduate student
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions carefully
  • Strong organizational skills and capacity to manage multiple tasks
  • Comfort handling confidential information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Nice To Haves

  • Academic or extracurricular interest or experience in immigration, international studies, political science, public interest, or human rights
  • Language skills (e.g., Spanish, French, Arabic, etc.) are a plus but not required

Responsibilities

  • Conduct country conditions research for asylum, humanitarian, and family-based cases
  • Draft basic cover letters, templates, or simple correspondence under attorney/paralegal supervision
  • Support preparation of legal summaries, timelines, translations, or declarations as needed
  • Assist with the preparation, organization, and indexing of evidence packets
  • Track deadlines, update internal case management tools, and help maintain digital case files
  • Support document review, data entry, and preparation of mailing or submission packets
  • Scan, print, and organize physical and digital documents
  • Help maintain office organization and workspaces
  • Perform other administrative tasks that support efficient office operations
