About The Position

Be part of a world-class academic healthcare system, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, as a Charge Master Analyst. This position will be primarily onsite. Join us as a Chargemaster Coding Analyst with our Shared Services - Revenue Cycle team in Harvey, IL. The Chargemaster Analyst is responsible for maintaining the Charge Description Master (CDM) in Soarian Financials the Patient Accounting System, reviewing reimbursement and pricing. The purpose of this position is to maintain the accuracy of CDM line item services for the hospitals, clinics and Medical Group. The Chargemaster Analyst will act as a key participant during the annual review of the CDM and meet with clinical managers/department heads. In addition, this individual will be responsible for assigning CPT/HCPCS, revenue, and insurance codes for new and updated services. The Chargemaster Coding Analyst will also be responsible for maintaining a database of relevant CDM-related regulations (i.e. provider bulletins). This position will work closely with management and staff throughout the organization to answer questions, explain charge coding/reimbursement, and solve issues and problems as they arise.

Requirements

  • Education: BS/BA in a Healthcare or business related field; 5-8 years of related experience in lieu of educational experience.
  • Licences/Certifications: RHIA, RHITA and/or CCS certification.
  • Thorough knowledge of CPT/HCPCS coding required.
  • Knowledge of UB-04 data elements requirements, state healthcare billing requirements and Medicare rules preferred.
  • Microsoft Excel and Access skills strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis to understand net revenue effect of proposed chargemaster changes.
  • Analyze data within the CDM and assign accurate CPT/HCPCS and revenue codes to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Monitor and review daily revenue reports for accuracy and completeness using requisite I/T tools.
  • Perform annual pricing analysis with recommendations for optimizing revenue opportunities.
  • Understand the marketplace relative to pricing and suggest responses to new providers.
  • Work with managed care contracting personnel in the development and analysis of contracts with payers.
  • Respond to CDM inquiries and requests timely.
  • Resolve coding discrepancies.
  • Assist with education of departmental staff on changes.
  • Report to management on monthly financial results.
  • Establish, maintain, and coordinate new charges and CDM process improvements.
  • Recommend, develop and maintain financial databases, computer software systems and manual filing systems.
  • Survey operations to ascertain CDM needs and to recommend, develop and maintain solutions to business and financial problems.
  • Utilize knowledge gained from education programs in everyday work situations.
  • Demonstrate commitment to professional growth and competence.
  • Attend all mandatory Departmental and Hospital in-services and meetings.
  • Formulate annual written objectives with supervisor.
  • Seek educational and learning experiences in identified areas of need and review progress through the annual review process.
