About The Position

Community Health Network offers an excellent opportunity within its imaging team for a student enrolled in a radiologic technology program. The Imaging Student Extern works under the direction of an Imaging Technologist, performing both direct and indirect patient care. Direct patient care involves assisting technologists with patient preparation, screening, positioning, and exam performance. Indirect patient care includes documentation, reinforcing patient/family education, stocking supplies, room turnover, and patient transportation/escort. The extern also collaborates with other team members to perform additional services as directed.

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited Radiologic Technology program

Responsibilities

  • Performs direct and indirect patient care
  • Assists technologist with preparing and screening patient for exam
  • Assists technologist with positioning and performance of exam, as requested
  • Performs documentation
  • Assists to reinforce patient/family education
  • Stocks supplies
  • Performs room turnover
  • Performs patient transportation/escort
  • Collaborates with other team members to perform other services as directed
  • Establishes and maintains a safe environment, room organized and free of fall hazards, conducive to effective team functioning, positive patient outcomes, and personal safety
  • Assists Care Team with patient care under the direct supervision of the Imaging Technologist(s)
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of computer systems that support the Medical Imaging Department, including EMR, PACS (and affiliated PACS features), and phlebotomy
  • Provides patient specimens to Pathology and Laboratory when requested
  • Answers phone calls for the imaging department and monitor voicemail
  • Transitions patients from portable oxygen tank to flow meter and vice versa with no adjustment to the amount of oxygen delivered
  • Escorts patients with outpatient procedures to and from the imaging department
  • Transports patients to and from Emergency Department
  • Instructs and assists patients for exam/procedure preparation (i.e. - changing clothes, using restroom, completing screening/questionnaire forms, etc.)
  • Positions patients on the exam table
  • Assists with room turnover (i.e. - cleaning, linen, stocking, trash removal)
  • Performs phlebotomy as needed
  • Starts and discontinues temporary IV access as required
  • Performs eGFR POC testing
  • Establishes temporary IV access
