The Imaging Student Extern delivers high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care skills while gaining practical experience and knowledge in imaging principles. Under the supervision of a Registered Radiologic Technologist, the Imaging Student Externprepares forandassistswith x-ray procedures,in accordance withthe Extern's skills/training and the needs of the Department. The Imaging Student Externmust becurrently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of radiography and can perform higher-level procedures once competency is achieved. Overland Park Regional Medical Center is a 340+ bed facility offering acute medical services to our patients. We are Johnson County's only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Level II Trauma Center. We have an Accredited Stroke and Chest Pain Center. Our hospital is a premier area destination for Womens & Children's healthcare services. We offer the region's only Maternal Fetal Health Center to care for critically ill mothers and their babies. Our hospital has an antepartum unit, a labor and delivery unit, and a Level III NICU. We have four emergency rooms, including a dedicated Pediatric emergency room and two freestanding ERs located in Olathe and Shawnee. Each year our colleagues treat over 45,000 patients. Requirements

Must be currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of Radiography.
1+ years of imaging education completed, or as mandated by state of practice.

Responsibilities

Serves as the liaison between patients and departmental physicians and other members of the support team.
Obtains patient histories and screens patients for factors/conditions that may affect the imaging procedure.
Transports patients to and from the procedure area.
Assists in preparing and positioning patients for procedures. Performs patient verification prior to procedure.
Remains sensitive to the physical and emotional needs of the patient through good communication, patient assessment, patient monitoring, and patient care skills. Provides basic patient care and comfort.
Notifies Radiologic Technologist of any emergencies or concerns.
Assists in imaging room setup and turnover between patients, ensuring a safe and clean environment.
Assists with the maintenance and organization of radiology supplies.
Performs clerical work as needed, including greeting patients and families, registration, filing, answering and transferring phones, and relaying messages.
Maintains confidentiality of all patient care information to assure that patient's rights are protected.
Demonstrates an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
Adheres to all facility safety practices.
Participates in educational opportunities to develop optimal patient care, enhanced knowledge, and technical competence.
Performs other duties as assigned.
