About The Position

The Imaging Student Extern delivers high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care skills while gaining practical experience and knowledge in imaging principles. Under the supervision of a Registered Radiologic Technologist, the Imaging Student Extern prepares for and assists with x-ray procedures, in accordance with the Extern's skills/training and the needs of the Department. The Imaging Student Extern must be currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of radiography and can perform higher-level procedures once competency is achieved. What you will do in this role: Serves as the liaison between patients and departmental physicians and other members of the support team. Obtains patient histories and screens patients for factors/conditions that may affect the imaging procedure. Transports patients to and from the procedure area. Assists in preparing and positioning patients for procedures. Performs patient verification prior to procedure. Remains sensitive to the physical and emotional needs of the patient through good communication, patient assessment, patient monitoring, and patient care skills. Provides basic patient care and comfort. Notifies Radiologic Technologist of any emergencies or concerns. Assists in imaging room setup and turnover between patients, ensuring a safe and clean environment. Assists with the maintenance and organization of radiology supplies. Performs clerical work as needed, including greeting patients and families, registration, filing, answering and transferring phones, and relaying messages. Maintains confidentiality of all patient care information to assure that patient's rights are protected. Demonstrates an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology. Adheres to all facility safety practices. Participates in educational opportunities to develop optimal patient care, enhanced knowledge, and technical competence. Performs other duties as assigned. Practices and adheres to the "Code of Conduct" and "Mission and Value Statement."

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of Radiography.
  • 1+ years of imaging education completed, or as mandated by state of practice.
