About The Position

The X Ray Radiology Technologist operates diagnostic imaging equipment to obtain routine radiographs of designated body portions for interpretation by physicians. This role involves positioning patients and adjusting equipment for each examination, as well as assisting radiologists in administering contrast media required in specific diagnostic procedures. The technologist performs duties in several diagnostic imaging areas.

Requirements

  • Requires Associate's degree in Radiologic Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience in an AMA approved school of Radiological Technology.
  • ARRT licensure required.
  • BLS from American Heart Association required.
  • Three to six months on-the-job training or previous experience.

Responsibilities

  • Review requests and schedule patients for radiologic procedures, arranging for patient transport to the procedure area.
  • Review requests for procedures, using reasons for the procedures, department guidelines, physician recommendations, and personal judgment to determine regions to be examined and diagnostic images to be obtained.
  • Consult with the Radiologist to determine the need for additional diagnostic images for comprehensive examinations.
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures by transferring and positioning them, attaching or arranging immobilization and support devices, explaining the procedure, and reassuring patients.
  • Assist the Radiologist in performance of routine radiographs, adjusting, manipulating, and controlling a variety of imaging equipment and accessories.
  • Apply knowledge of human anatomy and understanding of the patient's condition to determine appropriate radiologic or testing techniques.
  • Monitor the patient's condition before and during performance of diagnostic procedures, recognizing changes that may require emergency actions.
  • Provide accurate diagnostic image identification, process diagnostic images, and monitor image quality.
  • Document procedure verification and procedural and quality control data using a computerized system.
  • Collect all completed diagnostic images and forward them to appropriate locations for interpretation and results reporting.
  • Calculate, prepare, log, and assist the Radiologist in administering and checking contrast media.
  • Practice sterile, isolation, and aseptic techniques to prevent contamination.
  • Apply knowledge of potential radiation hazards and observe appropriate radiation safety regulations.
  • Assist in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of clinical patient areas.
  • Monitor quality control on a daily basis and report operational and functional instrumentation problems.
  • Demonstrate clinical imaging procedures to students and new staff members, as assigned.
