About The Position

A non-licensed, staff member who is trained to be flexible in a variety of imaging support and transport duties. This person performs a variety of tasks including, but not limited to cleaning and stocking of patients rooms and other unit areas, and direct patient care within the scope of defined practice to include transporting patients to their in-patient bed and/or to and from other areas as needed. This job functions under the direct supervision of a registered professional technologist. This position will care for patients in the adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. Employee performs clinical duties in accordance with population specific guidelines and adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as outlined in policy and procedures.

Requirements

  • BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • On-the-job training.
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Physical ability to push/pull patients
  • Adaptable in changing situation and work assignments
  • Able to accept direction from professional Imaging staff, and perform basic technical skills and procedures

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Patient Care Tech experience, medical terminology, and Anatomy/Pathology.
  • Bi-lingual basic language skills preferred

Responsibilities

  • Call the floor Nurse to inform them of time of imaging.
  • Call the floor Nurse to get patient ready for imaging.
  • Complete the imaging patient history form.
  • Begin preliminary explanation of procedure with patient (i.e. getting contrast, etc.)
  • Performs patient transport functions as needed.
  • Help get patient on and off imaging table, set up imaging scanner, and assist anesthesia in preparing the patient for exam.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment.
  • Return patient to the unit and inform the floor Nurse that the patient has returned.
  • Look up lab results for technologist.
  • Burn CDs for patients.
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics, provides for positioning, mobility hygiene, ADL, and/or comfort needs according to procedure and direction.
  • Promptly identifies and reports physical and mental status changes to licensed staff assigned to the patient.
  • Contributes to patient safety by: Utilization of Universal Precautions for all patients. Careful adherence to NGHS Hand Hygiene policy. Providing a safe patient environment (i.e. call light within reach, side-rails up, etc.) Obtaining and restocking isolation supplies for patients on Infection Precautions. Completing and documenting equipment cleaning responsibilities as well as maintaining properly functioning equipment.
  • Accurately & timely records patient data and forwards to supervisory staff within established time frames.
  • Attains proficiency with all required IT systems to support the clinical staff & accurate documentation of patient care.
  • Participates in staff meetings.
  • Maintains proficiency with Microsoft Outlook in reading and responding to e-mails in timely manner.
  • Exhibits flexibility in scheduling to meet department staffing needs.
  • Completes department specific annual competency assessment requirements (Clinical Competency Checklist) within specific timelines.
  • May provide interpretation for patients and family members if determined to be competent to perform this service through the Customer Care Resource Center.
