About The Position

The position involves transporting patients between departments and escorting patients, families, and visitors as needed. The role requires using radiology computer systems to generate requisitions, check schedules, and obtain pertinent patient information. The individual will assist patients in preparation for exams and transferring them to and from exam rooms, providing basic instructions regarding routine procedures. Responsibilities also include organizing and preparing exam rooms, greeting patients and visitors, answering telephone calls, scheduling appointments, and acting as a liaison between ordering physicians, radiologists, and technologists. The position requires documentation of patient information and communication of observations and needs with healthcare team members. Additionally, routine maintenance and quality monitoring of imaging equipment is expected, along with assisting with the screening and documentation of MRI implants. The candidate must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care and adhere to departmental policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
  • High School Graduate.
  • No experience required.
  • Competent in IV insertion and venipuncture, based on department need.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with a variety of patients, staff, and physicians.
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills including experience in using computer applications/systems and electronic mail.
  • Ability to follow directions and work well both independently and with technologists, physicians, and patients.

Responsibilities

  • Uses radiology computer systems to generate requisitions, check schedules, and obtain pertinent patient information.
  • Assists patients in preparation for exams and transferring them to and from exam rooms.
  • Provides basic instruction to patients regarding routine procedures.
  • Organizes and prepares exam rooms and work areas, including cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment.
  • Greets patients and visitors and responds to routine requests for information.
  • Answers telephone, screens calls, schedules patient appointments, and takes messages.
  • Acts as a liaison between ordering physician, radiologist, and technologist.
  • Provides radiology reports and/or radiographic images to staff, physicians, patients, and/or family upon request.
  • Files, retrieves, and releases health information records and films.
  • Compiles film jackets/discs and completes required forms/documentation.
  • Documents requested information and communicates observations, concerns, and needs of the patient with healthcare team members.
  • Completes routine maintenance and quality monitoring of imaging equipment.
  • Assists with the screening and documentation of MRI implants.
